The Appearance of Failure

The Appearance of Failure [This is a new and current post.] The things I've had to live through all these years I've been blogging at this web site: getting ripped off by rock stars and movie stars and major corporations like Telus, getting preyed upon by the broadcast media, having my image constantly assaulted by web frauds who steal my posts, and then having to try to convince my readers that I'm right and their TV's and radios are wrong. I've been insulted by every stranger on the bus. I've been mocked by schoolchildren. I've endured the most horrible accounts of how my music and comedy was turned into a vast celebration of hate behind my back. And let's not forget the poverty I suffered while frauds got rich with my best posts. But the news reporters only want to talk about other scandals, the ones that leave them looking innocent. All that matters today is appearances, rather than substance. When people want to be stars, they want t...

Who's All Reading?

Image
Who's All Reading? Oct 20: 8:26 pm: It's my mother's birthday on Earth and I'm sure my late parents would be pleased with my full-time position in the work force after almost a year now. I got so wrapped up in my music and poetry and dialogues, trying to write my way past all those thousands of forgotten posts I shared in my 1999-2007 Blogger account that it consumed a good ten years of my life. I thought maybe someone in this rotten business might have a heart and let me have a little success with my own work after so many stars did so well with it, but I know better now. It's never too late to learn. If I was the kind of person who needed to be worshiped as a star, I doubt my music or poetry or dialogues would appeal to anyone. There's a big difference between being an artist and being a star. An artist's goal is to write a good song or poem or story, but a star only wants to be worshiped and paid. There are too many stars and not enough ...

Identity Crisis

Identity Crisis Extra Note on Saturday October 17, 2020: I'm about to start another day of work and I've learned my lesson. I won't check my email until the end of the shift from now on. I've had time to think of some innocent possibilities to explain the notifications from Revenue Canada. It could be from merely filling out spaces that are marked 'change of' with the same old information. That's probably all it is, but I'm going to have to check on it anyway now. I've had a hard time with strangers ripping me off on the web, so I may have overreacted yesterday in the following.[End of insertion.] Italicized below is my post from 2012 when I moved into my rooming house on Pender Street where I still live. It's in my very short It's All Right Mom blog. ( https://dave-mom.blogspot.com/2012/05/yee-haw.html ). It's 8 and 1/2 years later and my mother is now deceased. Do you all have my correct address yet? I guess the federa...

Breathing Space

Image
Breathing Space It's nice to be able to see all of my old tv shows on the internet again. I noticed that Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy (BBC 1981) was banned somewhere. Someone objected to it on religious grounds - obviously someone who failed to see the humour in the script. I disliked the watered down American film of more recent production, though its special effects were superior. The six-part BBC series is truer to the original and has that majestic sounding theme. I don't think its author (Douglas Adams) expected anyone to interpret this wild tale as any kind of criticism of scripture. It's too absurd to be critical. It playfully explores the absurdity of being, going out of its way to avoid making concrete statements. We do not laugh at religion at all here, just at the absurd - if we're keen enough to see it. I think it's rather plain and that this series should not be banned. It's cynical, yes, but entirely uncritical. Its cynicism ...

First Past Post

Past Posts: 2010-2020 I said I would start posting the best of my blogs in a new blog and talk about each post. Since George Carlin's crime has been shoved in my face on YouTube so much, I thought I should repost this excellent list of how many hours of his comedy routines were plagiarized from my 1999-2007 blogs. While I was struggling to recall everything he stole in the following post from December 2015, my mother died. My unchanging position since I posted this in December 2015: George Carlin was an evil scoundrel who should not have the cute, lovable image he got from robbing my blogs in the last years of his life. Anyone who wants to keep loving him can go to hell with him, and I'd say the same thing about him if he were still alive. That also goes for the gangsters in broadcasting who paid him to plagiarize me and their lawyers who betray justice by making it unavailable to all but the highest bidder.
